Trails Planning Intern

The Northern Virginia 4-H Educational and Conference Center currently has a spur trail and a section of the Appalachian Trail that traverses our property. These sections are di?cult to access and are limited in the habitats they cover. The intern will be involved in helping to develop a system of trails with maps that would be more easily accesssible to adults and youth looking for a more relaxing experience. Ultimately, we would like to make them interpretive trails with educational signage.
The 4-H Center is one of six 4-H camp and conference centers located in Virginia. Our facility is located on 229 acres that backs up to the Shenandoah National Forest. We host camps and retreats for over 5000 youth and adults annually. Our youth camps run weekly through the summer with around 300 youth in attendance. We also host camps for youth with cancer and children of military servicemen and servicewomen. We have four lodges, tennis courts, swimming pool, horseback riding, high and low ropes courses, ball ?elds, frisbee golf course, archery range, and a shooting range. In addition to camps, we also host conferences and retreats year-round.

Located near Front Royal Virginia on 229 acres adjacent to the Shenandoah National Forest.
Training Provided
If timing permits and there is interest, SCA member could get training and be involved with youth education.
Educational/Recreational Opportunities
Nearby canoeing and kayaking on Shenandoah River. Camping and hiking in Shenandoah National Park and Appalachian Trail. Located a little over an hour from Washington, DC.
